$8 Is Enough: Budget Wines

In Drink on April 20, 2009 at 5:31 pm

This week’s budget wine tip comes from an unexpected source: an opera fanatic friend of my parents, who is also the father-in-law of the VP of one of Napa Valley’s premier wineries. A man of discerning taste! Said friend picked up a bottle of the 2007 Trinchero Family Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc to use for cooking clams. But then, as he was cooking, he sampled a glass. And guess what? It was magical. Citrusy, with tropical fruit and perfectly refreshing. And it cost $6 at his local wine shop!

  1. reporting in from BevMo! south bay. The store’s manager helped me on my scavenger hunt with a search of budget wines on the foodinista.com from my Iphone. He was impressed by your inclusion of the Arancio Nero d’Avola and said they usually stock it and did not carry the Mas Que Vinos Ercavio but seemed very intrigued by it on my phone. This Trinchero is available there at $11.99 and we were also able to find the La Vieille Ferme Luberon previously mentioned in your budget wines for $5.99. woot woot. I scooped up a few bottles and then watched as an older woman asked to see my phone, read your review of it and loaded the other 10 on the shelf into her cart. I hope she likes them…

  2. ps- I’m thinking you should make $8 wines/budget wines a category on the main page. would make shopping easier : )
