Larchmont Larder

Daily Candy reported last week that The Larchmont Larder opened at 626 N. Larchmont Blvd., and then yesterday my friend Hugh mentioned that he had stopped in for a meatloaf sandwich with herb remoulade on a rustic roll, which he thought was pretty good. I followed suit today and wholeheartedly agree. Plus, I hadn’t expected it to be so cute inside! (See Daily Candy for interior shot.) It’s in a Craftsman bungalow with little tables and red metal garden chairs for seating, and an open kitchen where you can watch all the action. The sides and salads look yummy—golden beets, green apples, goat cheese with citrus shallot vinaigrette; baby artichokes with parsley, lemon and olive oil; and lemongrass-coconut rice with cilantro—as did an inviting key lime pie. Next time.

Oh, and one observation. It’s not super handicap accessible. And by “handicapped” I mean hauling a 5 ½-month old in a monster stroller up five stairs. But then again, 6 months ago, that would’ve sounded like a very good thing indeed…

UPDATE: Please read comment below from Katie at The Larchmont Larder re strollers, etc. A full service operation, I tell you! Makes me love this place all the more.

  1. So happy you liked the meatloaf sandwich! I wanted to comment on our handicapped accessibility. We are 100% ADA compliant and have a handicapped parking space in back, a ramp leading from our back parking area to our front door and bathrooms that are fully ADA compliant. It’s extremely important to us that any guest who wants to come to The Larchmont Larder can do so comfortably. I know how cumbersome strollers (and five month olds!) can be. I’m a mom of three. So sorry you had to deal with the steps. Next time, pop in and ask ANYONE from our staff to come out and give you a hand. That’s what we’re here for. I mean it! And when that baby gets older — be sure to ask for some free candy buttons. We hand them out to any kid who wants them (and any parent who isn’t too afraid of a kid with a sugar buzz!). Hope you come back soon!

  2. I hadn’t heard about this — very exciting … we’ll have to have a little “Larch Lunch” sometime soon.

  3. I tried it today!! Excellent. Greg had the meatloaf sandwich, which he loved. And, I had the egg salad, which was so satisfying, on lightly toasted bread with lettuce and chives. I also tried their pickles…yum. We both had a coffee, which was also excellent. I just can’t say enough good things about this place….in fact, did you notice their great floor “mat.” A very unique faux-wood looking rubber piece. The name on the mat said Arzu Firuz. Very cool place. The only thing I wish they had done was to make more outdoor seating and more cafe-style in the front where the parking is. Other than that, I’ll be back.-Alex
