A couple months ago, my friend Katie brought two sweet potato cakes with brown sugar icing that she’d made in mini bundt pans as a hostess gift to a dinner party—the idea being that my husband and I could each have one for breakfast the next morning with coffee. Such an awesome idea! The last thing I want to do the morning after a boozy evening is forage for food. Scratch that. The very, very last thing I want to do is clean up. But this morning (read: late afternoon), thanks to my friend Carolynn, cleanup from last night’s bash was a treat as we popped her hostess gift into the oven while we worked. She had brought a beautifully wrapped box of balls of uncooked cookie dough, along with a little bag of sea salt to sprinkle on top of the cookies (my lord, do I love salty-sweet!), with baking instructions handwritten on a gorgeous letterpress card tucked inside. It doesn’t hurt that she makes some of the best cookies ever—big and gooey with broken up bits of Valrhona fèves chocolate. Thanks, Carolynn!
